The Aardwolf also known as a Maanhaar Jackal and its name means earth wolf. The Aardwolf is in the same family as the hyena, however unlike the hyena and many other dogs, Aardwolves do not hunt larger animals. Instead, an Aardwolf’s primary source of food includes insects, mainly termites. This nocturnal dog lives in burrows and can be found throughout a number of countries in Africa.

The Crocodile is a prehistoric predator that live in and near bodies of water throughout Africa. There are a number of species of Crocodiles, however within Africa there are three species including the most well known Nile Crocodile, the Desert Crocodile, and the Dwarf Crocodile. Adult crocodiles typically live in the wild to ages of sixty to seventy years old, however have been documented to living of ages over one hundred years old. Although the size of Crocodiles vary drastically based upon species, Crocodiles can reach lengths of seventeen feet and weigh upwards of two thousand pounds.
The Jackal is a smaller species of wolf, which often hunts and acts more like a coyote. Throughout Africa, there are three species of Jackal including the Black-backed Jackal, the Side-striped Jackal, and the Golden Jackal. Jackals primarily prey on birds, reptiles, and smaller mammals and are known for being capable of running at higher speeds for extended periods of time. Jackals typically hunt alone or in a pair.

Spotted, Brown, and Striped Hyenas can be found throughout a number of countries across Africa. Known by many to be a scavenger, the Hyena is actually a very efficient hunter, which often hunts in packs. This species of animal is extremely powerful and has jaws capable of crushing the bones of its prey. Although primarily a carnivore, the Striped Hyena will actually supplement its diet by also consuming fruit.
The Bat-eared Fox is named after its large ears, however goes by a number of other names including Big-eared Fox, Black-eared Fox, Cape Fox, and Delalande’s Fox. The Bat-eared Fox uses its extremely large ears for locating very small game. It feeds primarily on termites, however will also consume smaller insects such as spiders, crickets, and ants.
