The Python is an extremely large constricting snake that is native to Africa, Asia, and Australia. In total there are twenty-six species all of which have multiple rows of backward-curving teeth and have been known to each a very large assortment of mammals, bird, reptiles, and amphibians.
The Giant Forest Hog is a native species of the African woodlands and one of the largest species of the pig family. Adult males can surpass six hundred pounds and grow almost seven feet in length. These animals are primary herbivores; however they are also opportunistic scavengers who will eat almost anything they find. Males of this species should be considered dangerous as they will attack quickly and without warning.
The Red River Hog is a member of the pig family and is very closely related to the Bush Pigs found throughout Africa. The Red River Hog is found in more tropical / rainforest regions of Africa and stays close to bodies of water. The Red River Hog feeds on roots, berries, insects, nuts, and other vegetation.
The Bush Pig is very closely related to the Red River Hog, however can be distinguished by having les colorful markings and coarser hair. An adult Bush Pig can weigh over three hundred pounds. Like other hogs, the Bush Pig feeds on an omnivorous diet consisting largely of roots, agricultural crops or small animals they find while foraging. Similar to the feral hogs in the United States, the Bush Pig is considered a nuisance in farming regions throughout Africa.
The Vervet Monkey is identified due to its black face surrounded by white hair, while the remainder of its body is covered with grey hair. There are five sub-species of Vervet Monkeys all of which primarily feed on fruits and other vegetation. The Vervet Monkey ranges in size from roughly seven pounds to twelve pounds.
The Honey Badger is also commonly referred to as the ratel and actually bears few similarities to other badger species. This animal more closely resembles a weasel and typically feeds on small rodents, snakes, lizards, insects, and eggs. It is extremely ferocious and welds very sharp claws, sharp teeth, and has very thick skin. These traits make most predators avoid pursuing the honey badger for food.
The warthog is a larger member of the pig family, given its name from the larger wart looking protrusions on the sides of its head. These protrusions actually serve as a fat repository, which is a contributing factor to the fact that a warthog can go for more than a month without water. This is a very important trait as this animal can be founds across the savannas, woodlands, and desert in Africa. Large tusks help protect the animal when fighting with its own species and defending against predators.
Baboons are one of the largest species of monkeys. There are five species of baboons including: Hamadryas Baboon, Guinea Baboon, Olive Baboon, Yellow Baboon, and Chacma Baboon. Baboons can be easily identified by two common features. First, they possess a long dog-like muzzle with sharp canine teeth. Secondly, they have hairless skin pads on their buttocks, which allow them to sit comfortably.
Latin for quilled pig, the African Porcupine is a large member of the rodent family. This species is generally about two and a half feet long and can weigh up to sixty pounds. Typically this animal will live in a large ground burrow. Its primary defense is its quills that measure in at over a foot in length. Once imbedded under the skin of a predator these quills act fishhook like, making them very painful and difficult to remove.
