Mountain Caribou

Although more predominant throughout Canada and the Northwest Territory, the Mountain Caribou can be found within the United States in Idaho, Montana, and Washington. Also known as the Selkirk Herd, these animals are much more rare and endangered when combined to their relatives in the more northern lands.

Hunters looking to pursue the Mountain Caribou should be in peak physical shape, as this species of caribou tends to favor the higher altitudes and rougher terrain. Physically, this species of caribou is similar in size to the Barren Ground Caribou, however their antlers do not grow as large as their cousins to the North.

Located in the Northwestern Territory and Alaska, the Barren Ground Caribou are migratory animals traveling hundreds of miles each session. These animals live predominantly on the tundra, however it is not uncommon to see animals in more forested terrain.

The barren ground caribou is a highly migratory species of big game.  Found throughout Canada and Alaska, this species of caribou migrates annually across the Canadian Yukon and into the calving grounds near the Artic Ocean in Alaska.  Following the calving session in the Spring these caribou travel back East across the Candian Yukon only to repeat the cycle again in the late Fall / Winter.
